Hyderabad: Municipal administration and urban development minister K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday requested defence minister Rajnath Singh to allocate defence lands in the city for expanding roads and also for the construction of skyways on the National High-ways that pass through the defence land.

Mr Rama Rao told the defence minister that the state government has taken up Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) as part of the Prime Minister’s vision to improve the road network to boost the economic growth of the nation.

He said the SRDP includes improvement of Ramgundam-Hyderabad sector on the State Highway from Jubilee Bus Station to Thumkunta, which would require 66.37 acre defence land in Secunderabad.

He told the defence minister that the road widening would improve the connectivity between Hyderabad and northern Telangana and will also greatly benefit the residents of Canton-ment by decongesting it.

Mr Rama Rao also requested the defence minister to permit the state government to make use of the Begumpet airport for the aerospace training activities.
