Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday stayed all further proceedings including the appointment of around 4,700 Secondary Grade Teachers (SGTs) in English and Telugu medium. There was no bar on SGTs for Urdu and Kannada medium.

The selections were to be made under Notification No. 53/2017 issued by the Telangana Public Service Commission (TSPSC) on October 21, 2017.

A vacation court comprising Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao and Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy was hearing an appeal filed by 30 applicants who had challenged the selection notification of provisionally selected candidates.

A single judge had earlier rejected their petitions, and they filed an appeal.

Mr Rahul Reddy, counsel for the appellants, said the TSPSC’s proposal of sending the provisional list for appointments without inquiring into relinquishment of selected candidates was contrary to Rule 6-A of the commission.

As per Rule 6-A, the TSPSC ought to conduct inquiry and remove the names of candidates who relinquish their selection and thereupon select other eligible candidates as per merit.

Mr Reddy said this process was not followed and no selection list was prepared by removing the names of candidates who had dropped out.
