Hyderabad: Four people were held for trying to steal diesel by digging a tunnel at Rampally on Thursday and seized Rs 90 lakh cash.  The miscreants identified as Hafeez Aziz, an electrician from Thane, B Srinivasulu from Mahabubnagar, Jayakrishna from Tungaturthy took the help of a fast food centre worker Mohammed Abdul Abrar and had taken land for lease near to the pipeline. They constructed a shed and dug a 10-metre long tunnel with 2 metre wide four months ago and made a hole to the pipe to pump out diesel.

They had stole around 84,365 litres of BPCL diesel, 46, 236 litres of IOCL diesel from the HPCL pipe which transfers diesel to the above bunks in Cherlapally and Keesara.

On learning the differences in fuel volume, the representatives of IOCL and BPCL examined the area and found the shed. Suspecting their hand in the issue, they approached Rachakonda police who watched their movements and arrested the culprits and seized the cash.

According to the Rachakonda police, the main accused Hafeez aka Cheddi Bengali was earlier arrested twice for diesel theft in Mumbai.
