KAKINADA: Pedavegi police booked a criminal case against former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Denduluru Assembly Constituency Chintamaneni Prabhakar (Telugu Desam).

According to Pedavegi police, a YSRC activist Cheruku Joseph had allegedly lodged a complaint that while he was taking sand in a bullock-cart at China Kamidi village in Pedavegi mandal of West Godavari, Prabhakar, along with his followers, stopped his cart and took out the sand from it and beat him up severely and also scolded him based on caste.

Pedavegi police registered a case against Prabhakar and his followers according to the complaint under SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act. Meanwhile, Eluru DSP O.Dilip Kiran inquired the matter and took the deposition from complainant Joseph.

Meanwhile, some Dalit organisations staged a stir at Eluru and submitted a memorandum to the district authorities to take action against Prabhakar and his followers as they insulted the Dalits.

Earlier, Prabhakar was arrested as he was coming to Eluru for staging demonstration on sand issue, as per the call given by the TD High Command. Yalamanchili police arrested Palakollu MLA Nimmakla Ramanaidu too as he was trying to participate in a sand agitation, taken up by the party.

Prabhakar said that he is not having any connection with Joseph’s case and he did not create any hurdle as he had not gone to China Kamidi village. He said that he was fond of Dalits since the beginning of his political career and there was a cordial relation between sshim and the Dalits. Prabhakar said that the YSR Congress leaders were trying to attribute such cases against him and he would not keep silent and would face them legally.
