According to AP state government data on minerals, there are a number of gold-bearing greenstone schist belts at Ram Giri in Anantapur and other adjoining areas in Rayalaseema region. Ramagiri gold mines located near Ramagiri in the Anantapur district were locked out a few years ago following the poor production of gold and incurring losses to the government.

Upon interaction with former workers and officials over the present situation, they have opined that the outcome of gold percentage will be seen more if mining takes out in Ramagiri mines. Former Minister for mines and child welfare Pethala Sujatha had earlier assured to initiate steps to reopen Ramagiri gold mines, but the same could not be addressed during TDP regime. The present YSRCP government is likely to re-open the gold mines.
