Heatwave sweeps Khammam, Bhadradri

Khammam: The sweltering heat on Tuesday claimed at least one life. A begger named Narasamma, 40, died at the Sattupalli bus stand unable to sustain the heatwave.


There are reports of at least 15 persons succumbing to the heatwave sweeping Khammam and Bhadradri districts with the temperatures reaching 470C in many areas. Most of the commuters find it difficult to bear the heatwave.


K. Usharani, 53, said, “I cannot postpone my travel because by daughter is not well and lives in Hyderabad. My going to see her is a must though I am totally drained by the  heatwave. I travelled in a hot oven of a bus to reach Hyderabad”.


The people of coal town and Bhadrachalam avoid stepping out of their houses during the day time. The temperature has been touching 460C for the last four days.


N. Sriram said, “The Rohini Karte is showing its fury and we are feeling a chulah is burning adjacent to us”.


Private and government hospitals have been witnessing a rush of patients complaining of dehydration. Nandulal Basi, Yellandu, Lavudya Bheelya, Rompedu, Jaggama, Gollapudi, Vasam Bikshamaiah, of Khammam and C. Mariyama of Madhira died due to sunstroke.
