EEF in Russia to be attended by Modi, leaders of Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia

Moscow  :   The 5th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), to be hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Vladivostok from September 4 to 6 with an aim to attract investment for the countrys far eastern region, will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and Mongolian President Khaltmaagiin Battulga.

The plenary session, the main event of the EEF, will take place on September 5, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said here on Friday.

"This year, along with our President, it will be attended by the Indian Prime Minister, Japanese Prime Minister, Malaysian Prime Minister as well as the Mongolian President," said Peskov, according to a statement issued by the event organiser, The Roscongress Foundation.

The Kremlin spokesman said Russia's Far East is an important investment-attractive region in need of accelerated development and the EEF will provide a platform to discuss various avenues.

The main topics of the EEF will be economic and social growth indicators of the Far East, as well as issues of improving the quality of life in the macro region. 

In addition, the programme will include inter-country business dialogues with India, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

In 2018, the WEF signed 220 agreements, contracts, memoranda and protocols in the amount of over 3 trillion rubles. The forum was attended by 6,002 delegates and 1,357 media representatives from 60 countries.

The EEF is held annually with the objective of facilitating accelerated development of the economy of Russian Far East and expanding international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. This time, IANS will be the media partner of the event.
