Ranchi, Feb 27 (IANS) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has sought permission from the Art, Culture, Tourism and Sports Department to file charge sheets against R.K. Anand and others in the 2011 National Games scam.

"R.K. Anand was Executive President of the National Games Organising Committee and he was accorded Minister of State rank. Permission has been sought from the department as charges against Anand have been found true in the purchase of sports items," said a source in ACB to IANS.

The ACB source said that the sports items were purchased at exaggerated rates for the National Games.

"After the department gives permission, then charge sheets will be filed against Anand and others," the source said.

The ACB had filed charge sheets against Sports Director P.C. Mishra in 2015 and against the then Treasurer Madhukant Pathak and General Secretary S.M. Hasmi of the Organising Committee in 2018.

The tenders for the sports items were floated in 2008. The corruption issue was raised over the purchase of the sports items in 2010, and an FIR was lodged in the same year. The National Games had taken place in 2011.

ACB sources say that large-scale corruption surfaced during the investigations. ACB sources say that whistles which cost Rs 95 per piece were purchased for Rs 450 per piece; basketballs that cost Rs 450 were purchased for Rs 1295 each; and footballs that cost Rs 325 were purchased at a rate of Rs 925 each.
