Wayanad (Kerala) Feb 15 (IANS) The family of V.V. Vasanth Kumar, who was among those martyred in the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, said they are proud of him for laying down his life for the country.

The Thursday suicide attack on a convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel left 45 dead while 38 others were injured.

The 40-year-old Kumar returned to Srinagar earlier in February to take up his new assignment, his brother Sajeevan told the media.

"He had come on a leave for 10 days. He had completed 18 years of service and was due to take retirement in less than two years time. We are proud of him as he has laid down his life for the country," said Sajeevan, adding "we expect his body will be brought here".

Hailing from Lakidi, near here, Kumar is survived by his mother, wife and two young children.

On Friday morning, Wayanad district authorities arrived at the home of Kumar and pledged all support to the bereaved family.
