Srinagar, Jan 12 : National Conference (NC) President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Saturday promised a truth and reconciliation commission if his party is voted to power.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a party function in Anantnag district, he said: "We hope God brings our party to power on its own without any other party's support."

NC Vice President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has already said that a truth and reconciliation commission should be formed that would enquire into the killings in the state during the last three decades.

"The very first day the new government takes over, we will appoint such a commission and see to it that the results are brought before the people not only in Jammu and Kashmir but in rest of the world as well."

He said his party would not support 'operation all-out' against militants.

"How can we support where there is suppression? It is not a question of 'all out'."

"We don't want our people to suffer so that they will be beaten in their homes. That has never been part of NC's policy.

"Our party is not going to support any violence or violation of human rights," Farooq Abdullah said.

"Everyone is free, we live in a free country. And we as a government will have to see that the freedom of the people is not curbed," he said.
