Man rescued from 150 feet deep well

Hyderabad: A 50 year-old man who fell in an abandoned well about 150 feet deep at Peddashapur village in Shamshabad was rescued by the police on Thursday night. A head constable from Cyberabad police commissionerate got down into the well using a rope and with the help of a crane, he brought the man up and he was admitted to Osmania General Hospital for treatment.

The incident took place at around 5.30 pm on Thursday, when D. Chandraiah alias Tekumatu Chandraiah, 50, a labourer and resident of Peddashapur village, went hunting on the outskirts of the village. Chandraiah did not notice the well and slipped into it, falling around 150 feet.

The locals heard his screams for rescue and alerted the Shamshabad police. Patrolling personnel were immediately sent to the spot.

“Head Constable K. Krishnama Chary and Home Guard Srisailam were on the patrolling duty close to the spot and they attended to the situation. The abandoned well was about 150 feet deep. Chandraiah, who slipped inside, received internal injuries,” said Shamshabad inspector R. Venkatesh. “The head constable used a rope and got down into the well. Meanwhile, a crane was arranged and with its help, Chandraiah was rescued and shifted to OGH. He is currently undergoing treatment,” said the inspector. “The rescue operation took more than four hours,” he said.
