Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) staff has started the demolition of a 200-year-old, 3 storied building on Charminar-Shah Ali Banda main road on Wednesday. The building located near Pista House had created a bottleneck on the main road.

Zonal Commissioner GHMC South Zone Mr. Srinivas Reddy said the owner of the building had been creating legal hurdles in widening the road since 1986. GHMC staff had started the demolition process using 3 JCBs.

He said the building was constructed using granite which had slowed down the pace of the demolition work. The demolition process will continue till tomorrow.

Mr Reddy said people had complained to the principal secretary Municipal Administration and Urban Development Mr Arvind Kumar and GHMC Commissioner Mr Dana Kishore about the congestion of the traffic due to bottleneck near Pista House, when they inspected the road last month.

Mr Kumar had instructed the GHMC officials to remove the obstacles.

Mr Srinivas claimed that the people of the area were now quite happy with the widening of the road.
