Hyderabad: Hours after the celebrations of the State Formation Day at the District Institute of Education and Training College in Neredmet, a cane juice vendor committed suicide inside the college by setting himself ablaze.

The man was said to be in a state of depression for some years. He died while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital on Sunday.

Reports initially emerged that he attempted suicide because he was unemployed, but the police and his family ruled this out and said he was a school dropout and was selling cane juice at Neredmet.

The Neredmet police said that the State Formation Day celebrations at the DIET College were over by 9 am and at around 10.30 am, V. Naveen Kumar, 32, went inside the college and set himself ablaze in a corner after dousing himself in kerosene. The youngsters who were playing cricket outside tried dousing the blaze, informed the police and called for an ambulance.

The police said that Ravi Kumar had 100 per cent burns. Though he was taken to Gandhi Hospital he died at around 3 pm.
