Mancherial police arrest over nine suspected hunters

Mancherial police bound over nine suspected hunters of wild animals before Mancherial Tahsildar Ramachandraiah here on Monday.

Mancherial Inspector A Mahesh said that the accused hunters were Jilukara Suman, Kova Lachu, Pendram Lingu, Kotnaka Laxman, Dosandula Laxman, Sandra Anil, Aitha Raj Kumar, Guniganti Balaram, Guniganti Vijay Kumar.Suman and Lachu were natives of Ryali village, while Lingu and Laxman were from Gopalpur village. The others belong to Gadpur village. Suman, Lachu, Lingu and Laxman were from Gond tribe and Thirupathi, Anil, Raj Kumar, Balram, Vijay Kumar were members of a weaker section.

Mahesh stated that consequences of hunting were explained to the hunters. They would be arrested by registering PD cases against them if they continued to kill wild animals using iron snares and electrified traps. Awareness was being created among the rural folks over the need to protect the animals and dissuade them from hunting, he added

It may be noted here that six hunters were arrested for allegedly setting iron snare to hunt wild animals, resulting in death of a male leopard on the outskirts of Rangapet village in Mancherial mandal, a few days back. Officials of Forest department stepped up vigilance on hunting and sought assistance of cops in abolishing the menace.
