Hyderabad: The National Investigation Agency personnel questioned J. Srinivas Rao, accused in the attempt on the life of YSR Congress Party President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, on how he had managed to take the knife past security at the Visakhapatnam airport where the attack took place.

They also grilled him on the sequence of incidents that occurred on October 25. Investigators were said to have verified call records of Rao to find if he had spoken to anyone. Srinivas Rao, who was accused of injuring Mr. Jagan Reddy on the left shoulder was taken into custody by NIA National Investigation Agency on January 12.

His custody ends on January 18, and the National Investigation Agency interrogated him for the fifth day on Wednesday at its Hyderabad branch.

“They (investigators) asked Srinivas Rao how he managed to take the knife inside the airport, the manner in which he approached the YSR Congress Party President and any other incidents to know the sequence of events, said Mr. Saleem, counsel for Rao.

The accused was taken to Gandhi Hospital for a health check-up and his condition was stated to be fine according to Mr. Saleem.

Rao reportedly told the investigators that he wanted to see Mr. Reddy as Chief Minister and had attacked him so that there would be sympathy for him. He was not motivated by any other political party, Mr. Saleem said.
