Four held for selling Chinese manja in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Four men were arrested in different incidents for selling the banned synthetic nylon coated Chinese manja in Hyderabad on Sunday.


In the first incident, the Central Zone Task Force police apprehended Raj Kumar Singh, 37, a resident of Upper Dhoolpet area of Mangalhat, who was in possession of banned material worth Rs 25,000.


“He was running a kites business and had illegally procured the banned Chinese dor and glass coated manja from one Narsing of Mangalhat and was selling the same to customers in the city. He was handed over to the Mangalhat police along with the seized material for investigation,” DCP, Commissioner’s Task Force, P. Radhakrishna Rao said.


In the second incident, the duo arrested by the Saidabad police were identified as Mohammed Abdul Raheem and P. Eshwaran, both residents of Saidabad area, who were selling the banned products, deemed dangerous for birds and other living beings. 


“Cases were registered against the men and the banned items were seized from their possession,” officials said.


In the third incident, the North Zone Task Force Team raided books and kites sales shop at Bapujinagar of Bowenpally and apprehended a 46-year-old man, identified as Bade Srinivas, who was in possession of `75,000 worth banned material. “He was purchasing the banned manja from a dealer, Bhavani and Balaji stores at Dhoolpet, at a low price and was selling it for a higher price to known customers in Secunderabad. He was handed over to the Bowenpally police for further necessary action,” added the DCP.


The Telangana state government under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, imposed a complete ban on procuring, stocking, sale and use of threads coated with glass or other harmful substances which were likely to cause grievous injury and inconvenience to animals, including birds as well as human beings.
