YSRCP claims 'unanimous local ward wins' ahead of results

Amaravati, March 4 (IANS) Following a stellar show in the recent panchayat elections, the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders have started claiming unanimous wins in majority of the ward and division elections in the urban local bodies polls with the polling process yet to be completed.

Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, political affairs adviser to the state government has already claimed that the YSRCP will sweep the municipal elections.

Party leaders claimed that YSRCP unanimously won 571 wards.

Out of a total of 2,794 wards, the party leaders said 578 have gone for unanimous polls in which YSRCP claimed the lion's share of 571 wards and divisions.

In Pulivendula, Punganuru and Macherla municipalities, the ruling party leaders claimed that YSRCP made a clean sweep in all the wards, including registering impressive wins in Rayachoti, Palamaneru, Naidupeta Atmakuru and Dhone municipalities.

As the urban local bodies elections are scheduled on March 10, campaigning is still on at several places.

On Wednesday, YSRCP leader and Rajya Sabha MP V. Vijayasai Reddy campaigned in Visakhapatnam and oversaw the crossing over of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Y. Varalakshmi into the party, along with 200 of her followers at Madhava Swamy Kalyana Mandapam in Madhava Dhara locality of the city.

Similarly, he oversaw the joining of Hari Krishna from Janasena into the party along with 300 other people from various other parties.

Andhra Pradesh BJP president Somu Veerraju claimed that YSRCP is orchestrating fake withdrawal procedures which allegedly started during the panchayat polls.

"This is continuing in Tirupati municipal corporation elections as well. When YSRCP experimented with the fake withdrawal on a BJP candidate, BJP leaders blocked it," claimed Veerraju.

He also alleged that YSRCP leaders forged a Janasena party aligned councilor candidate's signature to withdraw his nomination.

"When BJP leaders are asking for justice, police have resorted to blatant injustice. Is this democracy or Hitler's rule? BJP does not tolerate this kind of actions," claimed Veerraju.
