Kolkata, Oct 14 (IANS) West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday congratulated Abhijit Banerjee for being awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for 2019.
An alumnus of South Point School and Presidency College, Kolkata, Banerjee's field of work development economics, with particular emphasis on alleviating global poverty, "will be relevant to many developing countries", the Governor said in a statement released by Raj Bhavan.
"He made us proud with his high achievement, which will inspire our young scholars," Dhankhar said.
