Progress and Integrity: Development in Maharashtra Under Devendra Fadnavis

by Suryaa |

During the reign of Devendra Fadnavis in Maharashtra, the state witnessed a period of development achievements and almost no scams. The Chief Minister and now Deputy Chief Minister has brought to the state some much-needed infrastructure projects – Metro, Coastal Road, Samriddhi Highway, etc.

Other than the initial success of his government, his government had begun programs like Shetale and Jalyukta Shiwar, which saw improvements in many areas of industry, education, foreign investment, to irrigation. The policies Fadnavis led to have been admired as revolutionary and mainly because they were able to uplift sections of society in a way while keeping the main interest of the state/public well-being above personal interests.

Fadnavis’s commitment to the socio-economic development of the Maratha community is amply evident from the education and employment reservations that have benefited thousands up till now. He realized that government job opportunities are very scarce, and, hence, he emphasized empowering the Maratha youth in the fields of agriculture and industry. The interest repayment scheme for personal loan by Annasaheb Patil Economic Development Corporation and the education fee reimbursement scheme by Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj were also initiated so that financial support for Maratha youth would be given. Many of them were motivated to join the civil services and the public sector as well.

Growth into other Communities

Fadnavis did not just stop here as he continued his work to elevate the social status of various communities. Other groups also experienced educational as well as economic improvements in his rule. This he managed to do by offering government hostels to backward classes, increasing scholarships for higher education abroad, and offering housing schemes to nomadic tribes and backward classes. Also, financial development companies have been set up to help the various communities of the Lingayat, Gurav, Ramoshi, Wadar, Brahmin, and Rajputs in developing jobs, education, and industry in these communities.

Legacy of Leadership

Focus on meaningful work and not an quest for fleeting popularity is the hallmark of leadership by Fadnavis. Various initiatives of infrastructural development, agriculture, and community upliftment have placed an indelible mark upon the state that portrays him as a leader committed to the welfare of various societies in Maharashtra. Therefore, even with setbacks such as loss of responsibility for Chief Ministerial role being transferred to Uddhav Thackeray, Fadnavis has maintained the trust and support of the people in all strata in his state. Such consistent support only highlights the commitment to the cause of development and progress for life, promising a standing legacy for Maharashtra.

Devendra Fadnavis had managed to leave an indelible mark on the developmental trajectory of Maharashtra. It was indeed great times with no scandal governed by him, innovative big infrastructure and agricultural projects, and policies followed in a way that uplifted the diversities of the communities. The moves undertaken by Fadnavis, besides keeping his state ahead in matters critical to its growth and development, is again a reflection of his commitment towards public welfare and the interests of the state. A shining beam of development and progress, Fadnavis’s leadership will build trust and confidence among the population of Maharashtra for many years to come.
